Program
In partnership with HDFC Securities' "Know Your Money" Financial Literacy Program, empowHER India has launched a grassroots movement to educate, empower, and elevate.
Supported by Zilla Parishads, this program aims to build essential money management skills among adolescents and their communities across rural Maharashtra. It empowers individuals to make informed financial choices, access education and government schemes, build resilience, and break the cycle of poverty. For rural adolescents, it means learning to plan their futures, avoid financial exploitation, and take charge of their lives.
The numbers reveal more than a knowledge gap.
It’s a barrier to opportunity, freedom, and empowerment - especially in underserved communities.

Only 27% of Indians are financially literate

In rural areas, this drops to 24–25%

Among women, only 1 in 5 understands basic money management

For adolescents (13–19), the number is even lower: just 16.7%
