Sometimes, change in society does not come from big speeches or public events. It shows up in small, everyday moments. Moments where people sit together, talk, listen, and slowly start to see things differently.
This photo was taken during a visit to a village where the SETU program is running. We had gone to meet adolescent girls and their families and talk about girls' education, their interests, and the opportunities they can have in life.
At first glance, the photo may look simple. But it captures something very meaningful.
In the picture, you see three women standing together.
On the right is the grandmother. She grew up in a time when girls were expected to quietly follow traditions. Asking questions or making decisions about their own lives was not common. Life moved within the limits set by society.
On the left is the mother. Her generation stands somewhere in between. She carries the traditions she grew up with, but she also wants something better for her daughter. You can see both hope and hesitation in this generation.
And in the middle stands the CEO of empowHER Foundation, someone who works closely with communities to create opportunities for girls and women through education, life skills, and open conversations.
This photo is not just about three people standing together. It shows how change begins through dialogue.
During the visit, there were open discussions about the lives of adolescent girls. They shared their interests, perspectives, and insights gained through the SETU program. We also spoke about the importance of continuing education and questioned practices like early marriage. We discussed why girls need confidence, dreams, and the ability to make decisions about their futures.
In the beginning, there was some hesitation. The grandmother looked unsure. The mother spoke with a little caution. But as the conversation continued, things slowly became more comfortable. Because change does not always happen through arguments. Many times, it starts when people listen to each other and try to understand.
This is exactly what the SETU program aims to do. It helps adolescent girls build life skills, confidence, and awareness so they can think about their future and make informed choices.
Women's empowerment is not only about big statements. Sometimes it simply means bringing generations together and creating space for honest conversations. It means helping a girl believe that she can shape her own life.
This photo represents more than just three individuals. It reflects the past, the present, and the hope for the future coming together in one moment.
On International Women's Day, it reminds us that real change often begins quietly, through small conversations like these. In every village where the SETU program is running, many such conversations are happening. Each one is a small step, but together they are building a stronger and more hopeful future.
